Rees and Susannah Griffiths

Rees Griffiths was born around 1816 the son of David Griffiths the blacksmith of Llandyfan who was born in LLandebie in 1792 and his wife Anne who was born LLangathen around 1787. He lived in the family home Hengegin, Llandyfan until he married Susannah on 5th March 1841 in Betws Parish church; they built their new home at Tynycoed which was on land given to them by Susannah's father David Rees. Building a small blacksmiths' in the back yard Rees set up business with his younger brother David as his apprentice.

This is a picture of Susannah who was born on Pentwyn farm in 1818c and died on 12th July 1909 at Station Road, Ammanford (her daughter Anne's house). She was a famous herbal doctor passing down her knowledge to her son Jerry who became famous for 'Jerry's Ointment' which was used for burns.
